Being in Japan in the summer, I noticed a fascinating phenomenon.

Almost all the young girls who were out and about were using one. A handheld portable fan. Heat waves cause the average temperatures to climb over 95 degrees Fahrenheit,  just standing still you’d be drenched in sweat. In the midst of all of this, these girls were perfectly put together from head to toe with a handheld fan in hand. I suppose it keeps your makeup from running, and it looks cute just holding one. 

I mean I guess I could try it out. So I did, and they’re surprisingly lightweight and the fact that you can just carry them around your neck makes it convenient. It actually may help prevent your face from dripping with sweat. But…I think I’ll stick to my mini towel and hat. I encourage anyone to give it a go though. You’ll probably turn a few heads if you carried one around out here in California.
