Shin’s Childhood Memories
08.05.2023
Hello! I’m Shin from VIANGE HAIR DUBLIN.
This month’s topic is: “Childhood Memories”, and I’d like to share mine with you.
I’m sure it’s common for parents to want their children to participate in all kinds of extracurricular activities. I did as I was told and went to swimming classes, Japanese calligraphy lessons, and English tutoring courses. But I never lasted long in any of them. I would basically go because my friends were also enrolled and didn’t have any interest in actually learning anything.
Although I would quickly lose interest in a lot of things, the one thing I did stick with was baseball. I initially intended to just observe when I went along with my older brother, but before I knew it I was practicing with the team. This particular little league coach was a real hardass.
Even though he was tough on us he would take the time to take us to Tokyo Dome to watch a game, and then out for some katsu-don afterward. He genuinely cared and looked out for each and every one of the kids. He was like a father figure to many of us.
I went on to play baseball for nine years all the way up to my senior year of high school. No matter how hard it got I never gave up and I never quit. The main thing I gained from all of this is courage. It’s something I carry with me in my soul even now being a stylist here in the States.
I wonder how coach is doing. I’ll have to pay him a visit the next time I’m in Japan.
