Yumi’s Hometown Pride
12.30.2021

Hello, I’m Yumi, a resident hair stylist at Viange hair salon.
This blog is about my hometown pride.
I was born and raised in a place called Saga Prefecture in Kyushu, Japan. I’m sure many of you are wondering where exactly Saga is, but it is located in the middle of Fukuoka and Nagasaki. I would like to introduce and boast about two things from my hometown.
Hometown Pride 1.
Where I lived the air was very crisp and clear, we were surrounded by mountains, and as a child I would often swim in the local river. It is very quiet at night and you can see the stars vividly across the sky. My family grows their own vegetables and rice. Now, as an adult I appreciate how delicious freshly picked vegetables are. I believe the vegetables we cultivate are better than those offered in any marketplace.
Hometown Pride 2.
A famous delicacy from Saga is the Yobuko Squid. With the ocean being so close, the seafood is always fresh. I have this dish every time I go back home.
After enjoying freshly caught squid sashimi, the rest is served as squid tempura. Fresh squid is translucent and you can see right through it. I would love for you all to have the opportunity to try it. If you are ever in Japan and have some time to spare, please try Yobuko squid.
