A Promise That Shaped My Career — Yumi
02.28.2026
When I was deciding on my future in high school, I chose to attend beauty school. After graduating and starting work at a salon, I made a promise with my father: “Once you choose a career, continue it for at least three years.”
To be honest, there were many times I wanted to quit. But I was determined to keep going. With the support of my senior stylists and, most importantly, the joy of seeing my clients happy and returning to request me again, the three years passed quickly.
In my sixth year as a hairstylist, I decided to move to America, and I am still working as a hairstylist today.
I have been able to continue because of the encouraging words from my clients and the wonderful colleagues I have met along the way. I truly feel fulfillment in this profession and am grateful that I never gave up.
I am thankful to every client who has ever trusted me to cut their hair. Each experience has built my confidence.
I will continue doing what I love for as long as I am able to hold my scissors.
