From Architecture to Hair — An Unexpected Path — Sara
02.28.2026
Originally, my dream for the future was to become an architect.
The reason I became a hairstylist goes back to middle school and high school, when I used to cut my friends’ hair just for fun. They would tell me I was good at it and even joke that I should become a hairstylist someday.
When it came time in high school to attend career counseling sessions and decide on my future, one of my close friends said she wanted to become a hairstylist. Since I was often complimented on cutting my friends’ hair, I considered it as another option—though at that time, it was simply an alternative to becoming an architect.
When I actually listened to the explanation about beauty school, I learned that admission was based mainly on an interview. On the other hand, becoming an architect required studying hard and passing exams just to enter the program.
In the end, I chose the path that seemed easier to start.
Looking back now, I truly feel that becoming a hairstylist was my calling, and I’m glad I made that choice.
