My Feel-Good Food
09.16.2026
When I think of a food that gives me a little boost, natto immediately comes to mind. Natto is definitely one of those foods that people either love or hate—even in Japan! I wouldn’t say that I’m a huge natto lover myself, but I make a conscious effort to include it in my diet for beauty, wellness, and as an easy way to add more protein to my daily meals.
Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans and has been enjoyed in Japan for centuries. It’s a source of plant-based protein and also contains fiber, vitamin K, and B vitamins, so it’s easy to see why natto is often considered a Japanese superfood.
Rather than eating it on its own, I like to mix it with different ingredients to make it more flavorful and satisfying. Sometimes I add an egg, kimchi, nori, or okra, then serve everything over a warm bowl of rice. It’s a simple way to bring together protein, vegetables, and fermented foods all in one meal.
Natto may not be everyone’s favorite, but I’ve found my own way to enjoy it—and I plan to keep making it a delicious part of my everyday routine.
