Ingredients of shampoo – Hair Care Tips by Kaori

We will have a chemistry class this month!
I would like to talk about the ingredients of shampoo. You see many ingredients on the back of the shampoo bottle. Cleansing ingredients are the most content among all ingredients. It is essential to see what cleansing ingredients are used for the shampoos. It will not be a good shampoo even if you see the fancy sound ingredients on the bottle if harsh cleansing ingredients are used. Because those harsh-cleansing ingredients may cause allergic reactions or dry out your scalp.
I am going to share my experiences through my career. (This is just an example from my experience. Not to mention, there are many other cases also) In general, many Japanese people in Japan shampoo their hair every day (including myself) or very frequently. That is my impression comparing the working experience in Japan and other countries. However, I had only seen a few dry or troubled scalp situations. I see more troubled scalp cases here in the US. Then, I come to realize that difference is the ingredients of shampoos that I see in Japan.
Mild or gentle washing agents are used for shampoos, which are much more favorable or gentler to the skin. The cleansing ingredients are a crucial factor for a happy scalp!
Now, introduce the cleansing ingredients that are used for CRES products.
- DECYL GLUCOSIDE
- SODIUM COCOYL ALANINATE
- LAURAMIDE DEA
- COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE
- COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE
- TEA-COCOYL GLUTAMATE
- CAPRYLYL/CAPRYL GLUCOSIDE
- COCAMIDE METHYL MEA
Those cleansing ingredients are called surfactants. All the surfactants are nonionic, amino acid, or Betaine surfactants, known as mild, gentle cleansing agents. Wash out oil and dirt very well yet hypoallergenic.
Vice versa, harsh surfactants are
- Sodium Laureth sulfate
- Ammonium Laureth Sulfate
- Olefin Sulfonate
What do you think? Using good quality shampoo is the path to getting a happier scalp!
Class finished!
