Vol.35 Tailored Hair by Aki : Perm Experiment
03.31.2024

The Experiment
We will experiment to prove the benefits of the previously mentioned application wrapping technique.
Experiment Objective
The purpose of this experiment is to verify how the order of applying perming solution and rolling rods affects the final outcome of the perm.
Experimental Procedure
1. Case A (A Traditional Method): Rods are applied with water only, and without applying perm solution 1. Once rods are placed, apply solution 1 to the hair and leave it on for 8 minutes.
2.Case B (New Method): First, apply perm solution 1 to the hair and leave it in for 8 minutes without placing rods. Next, apply the rods then apply fixing solution 2 and leave on for 10 minutes.
Observation Results
Surprisingly, Case B showed very clean ridges. You can see the results of both methods in the before-and-after photos below.
Theoretical Explanation
This result suggests that by allowing the perm solution to penetrate the hair before wrapping the rods, more uniform and clean curls are formed. It may also reduce damage to the hair.
Practical Advice
Based on this experiment, if you apply solution 1 first and start wrapping immediately, with rods fully in place within 8 to 10 minutes, you can proceed directly to applying solution 2.
Conclusion
Application Wrapping perms are significantly faster and less damaging than Water Wrapping perms. There are numerous benefits like reducing the burden of time constraints for treatment for the clients, and minimizing damage to the hair by two to three times.
Application
When doing the Application Wrapping perm, consider the conditions of each section of the hair at the roots, midsection, and ends. Adjusting the solution accoridingly for each section can further minimize damage to the hair.
