How to Share Your Design- the layered cut
Continuing from our discussion of the bob cut, we will be sharing how to approach a layered cut with your designer.
There are many variations of a layered cut. Even if you picked out a specific layered style from a lookbook it can come out shorter than you expected or leave you questioning if you were able to really convey your vision to your designer. Some of you have probably experienced that your layered cut always seems to come out shorter than you expected. We will dive into the technique of determining length, but the deviations that occur come from the physical differences the client has versus the person modeling the inspo hair. Everyone has differences in the size of their head, facial structures, neck length, shoulder width, even the position of their collar bone, and we will explain what that means for your design. If you share your vision the Tailored Hair Design way taking into account your overall physical balance, you will be closer to your desired look with less deviation from your intended style.
*A layered style with a tapered hem line
*A tapered layer style
*As seen in the photo, we pinch the middle of the back hairs to bring them up.
We will then determine the best position of the tapered layers according to the client’s face. There is always a moment where the client’s facial expression shines the most that helps determine the right position.
Once the length is determined we will go into finding the best height to the layers and thickness.
After adjusting the length of the hair on one side, we pinch the hair with the right hand to create layers at the midpoint and move it up and down, or out to the side to find the best look. We take into account the client’s face shap along with their facial expressions as the look is being adjusted. We are able to get a better feel for client satisfaction by paying close attention to subtle changes to their facial expressions as it may show enthusiasm or disdain.
With all this in mind the designer begins to build a blueprint of the design in their mind.
We went over a tapered layer cut in this edition, but next time we will discuss a layered cut with more weight.
